On June 2, 1994, four brave couples met at Silver Creek Village, Buchanan Lake with the dream to build a church that followed the teachings of 16th century Reformer of the Christian Church, Martin Luther.
For Rev. Eldor Mickan and his wife Maria, Cal and Norma Doescher, Art and Pauline Williams, Harold and Lorene Krause, along with Rev. Ken Hennings of the Texas District – LCMS, their dream soon became a reality as others became interested and formed the mission congregation, which was named Genesis by Jeff Tydlaska. The first service was conducted at the United Methodist Church near the intersection of Highways 29 and 1431 on September 18, 1994.
In 1996, the congregation adopted its constitution and was chartered by the State of Texas. By the fall of that year, the church purchased a building on close to an acre of land at 15946 E. Highway 29 (our present location), and improvements soon began. Services at our new church “home” officially commenced Christmas Eve, 1996.
1998 proved to be a pivotal year, as the building improvements were completed, the Rev. Ken Baisden was called to be our missionary pastor. Additional properties were subsequently purchased until the present 16 acres have become our own, giving every indication to others that our congregation with the Lord’s help has great plans for the future.
Our message to the community is that we are at work “expanding the Kingdom of God by sharing Christ’s Love!” With that expressed mission, our people are encouraging others to make a New Beginning (a “new Genesis”) in their spiritual lives as they come to worship God and practice traditional "Lutheranism," which exemplifies the three great truths of the Protestant Reformation: We are saved from death’s consequences and given the gift of heaven through the merits of Christ by Grace-Faith-Scripture ALONE
Genesis is actively involved in social ministry endeavors here in the Highland Lakes Area, and provides monthly financial support to the three local food banks, as well as contributing to needs as they arise. We believe in what the Lord has taught us: “when we do such things as these to the least of His brothers, we have done it unto him!”
To organize and manage such a ministry, our Congregation offers:
- A full Sunday morning worship schedule (Services at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM, Sunday Bible Class at 9:45 AM, Holy Communion is celebrated the first and third Sundays of each month);
- Lent and Advent Services with a fellowship hour preceding;
- Individual weekday Bible Study/Fellowship for men and women;
- And other groups, which meet to address the fellowship needs of our members.
